The CD is DEAD but the artist is very much ALIVE.
about €390 for 1000 if you sell them for just €2 you make €1610 sell for €5 you make €4610 what am I talking about? A musixcard! How did I find it? I was just talking to a good business partner of mine, Ronny Wesel of Music Art Entertainment: We were just talking about music and I had had a request for music for a German Television Commercial, a TV ad campaign. It was supposed to be an “arse shaking” track. Now exactly what is considered a track to shake your arse to in Germany is a difficult one. Especially since to be honest, the arse shake is not a typical German dance style. Maybe the fact that the Dirndl, the traditional South German dress for girls, with its long length and large folds, is not your typical bottom emphasizing dance costume.
Well I had found only 2 tracks amongst my artists that may have fit the request so Ronny gave me the name of a producer who was working with some other hip hop/ pop artists. He did have some very good artists with some hip wiggli8ng bum jiggling tracks. In the end the client did not seem willing to give a new artist an opportunity and went for an old established artist. The contact was however worth far more as Daniel Hoeck, the producer has company which I think is making an incredible product for all those who have a product to sell or distribute that is in or can be converted into an electronic data format, any complete data stream or date file. Music films, books are all such examples. I am sure that there are many others which exist or will be developed over time. That is a matter of imagination and invention. We are talking about something that is the same size and shape of a credit card or a business card. |
So how does it work?
Why do I like it so much.
I have used it for, at the time of writing, one promotional event which has brought a lot of traffic and attention to my artists so far. It could not be easier. They have nothing to remember. You have your sales money upfront. Your material costs could hardly be lower. It is easy and clear. Yes I am a fan of anything that will help both the artist/company and the customer. There are some downsides of course. I will look at those in a minute. Yes the simple application is to take your finished product, single, book, video. Order your cards. Take them to your gig, promotion event, shop. Sell them and walk away with your profit in your hands. That is the obvious and probably the initial standard process. Think of this.
- design and buy a set of credit card style selling units
- Upload your product it to the Musixcard server.
- Sell/give your card to the client/customer
- They go to your website and click on the Musixcard widget which you have installed there.
- They have a unique number which is printed on the card which they input into the number field
- your product is downloaded to your client/customer.

How do YOU use it?
You have just performed a smashing gig. Your fans are all hyped and excited about it and have the energy and memory of that gig which they just want to take with them as a memory. And want to buy your tracks NOW. You have your CD’s at the back in the boxes ready to be sold. Each of which you have spent a lot producing and you need to sell them. You hand them out and tell people to come back to your webpage and download your live concert once you have loaded it up to your server. Pay for the bandwidth on the server hoping that they will do that too. That is one way to do it. But how about this. You concert is done. You have 1000 people in the room and happen to have 1000 Musixcard with your logo and web address.. You shout over the mike. (Yes we all know that a microphone is made so you don’t have to shout but we all still do shout. Go figure!) “You have a good time”.. Screaming cheers from the crowd. “You want to remember it forever” .. more screams “You know what, I am going to add it to my album right now just for those of you who were here tonight”… more screams. “No but just for you. No one else, because you came and were part of this” more screams “You can get my album at the back and everyone who gets it tonight will get all the racks live added to that album and I do this only for my real fans, The ones who came here tonight. It is special to you and to me… Go straight home, download it tonight and relive it with me again and again. I love you all.” … screams and rushes to your merchandising stand. Yes your fans are your capital. Give them something and they will give you something. How can this wonder happen? Simple. You take the feed from the mixing board which you have intelligently saved and gotten a professional to mix especially for the purpose with crowd noise from the extra microphones directed at your fans. You connect with the internet, upload at that moment directly to the Musixcard server. Wait for it to be done and you are finished. (A tip, add a personal message either audio recorded right then or typed into a pdf file that you include.) Now that is just one other possibility and there are so many more. You could be an author offering additional or other was of getting your book, you could be film producer offering your track. You could be a businessman on a business trip and want to give your clients a special business card with catalogue and images without having to carry a pile of magazines. You could be an actress, comedian or model going to an audition and want to hand them your tapes and pictures. All of these are ways of showing that you know what you are doing and are living in the modern world. |
So now the down sides?
Well the first one is both an upside and a down side. Each number is a one shot deal. Meaning they can only use it once. It means they can’t pass it on to a friend but of course, if anything goes wrong or they load it to the wrong place they may not be happy. The recipient may not be as up-to-date as you. Not everyone has internet and many are afraid of it. There is a limit to the server memory for data you can upload. There is really more than plenty for the musician but I am sure there are some film video producers who may find it a little limiting I have to say that I find it hard to think of many other negatives to this. I would be very happy if any of you have ideas both positive negative or just want to tell me anything about it. I am not part of the company and other than my affiliate marketing connection I am independent of the company so please tell me what you think. |
